ABOUT PIOTR

Meet Piotr, the founder and owner, with a background in adventure tourism in polar regions since 2013. Starting with backcountry skiing and snowboarding in Canada, he later moved to northern Norway, where he fell in love with dog sledding culture. After years in Svalbard, he brought his expertise to Reykjavik, Iceland, pursuing a master’s degree in Arctic tourism. Piotr has diverse guiding experience in kayaking, hiking, dog sledding, and cross country and back country skiing.
Having discovered his passion for kayaking on Polish rivers as a kid, Piotr has since kayaked in the US, Canada, Iceland, Svalbard, and Greenland. He trained in cold arctic waters with the Norwegian Kayaking Association and pursued certifications with British Canoeing honing his sea safety and survival skills. In 2019, captivated by the beauty of Uummannaq, West Greenland, and immersed in the world of the Inuit, Piotr established Sea Kayak Greenland, turning his skills, experience, and knowledge into a tangible project.

ABOUT MALIGIAQ

Meet Maligiaq, the co-owner and the lead guide of Sea Kayak Greenland. Born and raised in Greenland, he started kayaking in 1994. His first memories of being on water are from times spent with his grandfather. Hunting seals and sea birds on his wooden boat. One of the first profound memories is when he saw his grandfather’s kayak, and heard so many hunting stories. Since then he became an expert in guiding, leading and traditional qajaq building.

Maligiaq, means following waves, and like the waves he has travelled the world, absorbing cultures from the Arctic and beyond. He lived in Alaska for 10 years, learning Alaskan culture, traditions and their qajaq designs and history. Maligiaq has been competing in kayaking since 1994. In 1998 he became a youngest person in history, winning the whole thing being 16 years old. In total he won 10 times. In 1999 he competed in World Kayak Championship in Canada, and came in 8th in 500m sprint, 12th in 23km race, and 7th in 60km race.
